Over the years, I have come to depend on the mundane as a reliable source for making art. The everyday, the plain, and the commonplace attract me rather than the heroic, the monumental, or the gorgeous. Some of my subjects have been rocks, household cleaning products, vacuum cleaner parts, parking meters, road signs, and commonly uttered phrases. I have alternated between using paint as my medium and other materials, such as papier mâché, animal bones, human hair, found objects, plastic bags, yarn, and burlap. From these ordinary things, I try to extract the extraordinary or, at least, the interesting.
